Data Warehousing Consulting
Business Intelligence and Analytics
JOBS MARKET FORECAST:
The Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence, and Analytics consulting job market (excerpt)
CURRENT MARKET
Marketing emphasis currently is focused on Analytics capabilities and BI (Business Intelligence) / Data Mining. That emphasis is further driven by a desire for greater returns on investments to date, e.g., CRM. Confronted with budget stress from economic issues, along with CEO-induced stress over past big-software, big-expenditure projects that didn’t deliver the promised benefits and return, CIO’s are wondering if the answer lies in better applying and better utilizing what’s already in place. Thus the current market push, and interest in, leveraging more effectively what is currently available. The emphasis on enterprise and extraprise collaboration; e-Commerce customer-facing support and productivity; increasing integration with ERP and Supply Chain (SCM) for order fulfillment; Knowledge Management; and, Web Services all add further impetus.
Contracting leads the moderate demand, but volatility will require careful planning. Full-time consulting opportunities will lag contracting initially. Analytics will see continued marketing intensity
Experience in key technology skills within information delivery should likewise find moderate demand: i.e., Enterprise and system data architecture design; experience in designing for high performance; expertise in OLAP and ETL tools; and expertise in data warehousing and data mining. Technologies include Business Objects, SAS Business Intelligence / SAS Analytics, Microstrategy, SAP BIW, mySAP BW, SAP Analytics, Oracle, Brio Enterprise, Informatica, Cognos. Technical Team / Project Lead consulting experience further enhances opportunities.
