The ITC Oracle Applications recruiters report on the Oracle consulting market (excerpts)
CURRENT MARKET
While SOA and Web services are driving all vendors’ ERP redevelopment efforts, SOA is not high on the IT priority list at many companies.
Oracle E-Business Suite 12 includes Web services and XML reporting capabilities, technology that are part of Fusion, making it easier for customers eventually to jump to those applications. Oracle been building up the SOA and business process management capabilities of its Fusion middleware products. Oracle SOA Suite has tools for deploying and managing SOA systems, including BPEL Process Manager for defining and executing business processes. Skills in demand include experience with Oracle BPEL tools, Web Services Manager, Oracle BI Suite EE 3, and Oracle WebCenter Suite
Prepackaged BI applications that can work across multiple sources—PeopleSoft, JD Edwards and Siebel—allow users to analyze data across these systems, a key functionality. Because Oracle BI Suite EE 3 is integrated at a number of different points throughout the Oracle Fusion Middleware stack, skills in Oracle BI Publisher, Oracle BPEL Process Manager and Oracle Portal are valuable.
Contracting will continue to lead in demand, although volatility will require careful planning. Full-time opportunities will remain temperate through most of the year.
Job skills that will find the best demand include Oracle Project Managers, Oracle Business Intelligence, Oracle Supply Chain Management (Oracle SCM), Advanced Supply Chain Planning (Oracle ASCP), Order Management (OM), Advanced Planning and Scheduling (Oracle APS), Oracle Project Accounting as well as Project Billing (PA and PJR), Oracle EAM, Oracle iSupplier Portal, Oracle Sourcing, Oracle Collaboration Suite / Oracle Collaborative Planning, Order-to-Cash, Procure-to-Pay, Advanced Pricing, and Oracle HRMS. Also Oracle Time and Labor (OTL), Oracle SRM, Oracle Maintenance / Oracle Complex MRO (Oracle MRO), and Oracle Exchange Marketplace (Oracle iProcurement) will continue in demand. Increasing in demand will be COTS best of breed SCM (and COTS integration via SOA and Enterprise Service Bus / ESB) such as IFS Applications / IFS EAM / IFS MRO (Industrial and Financial Systems IFS1, IFS App 7, IFS 2022) and CKCM Click Commerce Xelus (Click Commerce Service Supply Chain Management / Click Commerce Extended Order Management / Click Commerce Demand Chain Management), CMMS software, and TRAX Maintenance. Finally, Oracle Applications DBA’s and Data Warehousing, integration, and XML skills will also continue to do well in demand.
